Sometimes website users find it helpful to print a specific page of your website. This feature can be implemented various ways, with the more sophisticated page printing methods being the more expensive customisations. Note that you do not have to customise at all to achieve page printing functionality as website users will always be able to print your website pages by clicking on 'File' then 'Print' in their website browsers. Having users print your web pages in this way does not give you exact control over how the page is printed as different browsers will print pages slightly differently. Below, some more sophisticated various ways of achieving 'print this page' functionality are described:
'Print this page' button - opens Printer dialog
A button is placed on the pages where you want to enable the 'Print this Page' feature. Clicking this button will open the printer dialog (the small screen that pops up when you click 'File' then 'Print' in your browser). By default this will print the page content only - i.e. the header and menus will not be printed. Note that this feature is really just a shortcut to save users having to print the page from their browser. This is a small customisation, costing generally between $197 and $394 depending on exactly how you want this feature implemented.
'Print this Page' button - opens specially formatted page
If desired a system that opens 'Print only' versions of specified pages can be developed. When the user clicks 'Print this page' then a new page, specially formatted for printing opens up. This gives you more control over the printed version of the page. For example you may choose to have a simpler layout for the printed page, or even different content. Note this will not give exact control over how the page is printed as different browsers will print pages differently, but it will give you more control than if the user simply printed the page from their browser. This is a small customisation, costing approximately $1,500. Note that this excludes the development of the printable version of the pages: you will need to create and fill the print only version of the pages you wish to offer this feature for, or alternatively have our content coordinators develop the content for you.
'Print this page' button - downloads pdf document
If exact control over the printed page is desired then a system can be developed that will allow users to download and print specified pages as pdf documents. This system would allow you to specify 'print only' versions of the pages you wanted to print, when a user clicked the 'Print this page' button the Print Only page would be converted to a pdf document, and the pdf document displayed. This would be a small to medium customisation, costing approximately $1,500 to $3,000 depending on your exact requirements. Note that this excludes the development of the printable version of the pages: you will need to create and fill the print only version of the pages for which you wish to offer this feature, or alternatively have our content coordinators develop the content for you.
